The purpose of this channel is promote knowledge and education in construction. Here in the US, many of us don’t have any formal training or education in construction, but we learn through experience. My goal with this page is to promote learning and to that end I will show what I’ve learned over the years. I want to be very clear, what I show here is just a starting point. I am not claiming the tricks and methods I use are the best way to do any one thing, but rather are the end result of 20+ years of refinement with many more years to go.
What I hope is that you as the reader/viewer will have an open mind and be willing to share your suggestions. Let’s all view ourselves as learners first, teachers second. Then all of us will progress together.

You guys can't RUclips house moving? Your jacking setup is dangerous and incredibly stupid. If that Rube Goldberg abortion failed you would have jacks and posts flying everywhere and the sudden change in load of the beam and the subsequent snap could have easily caused the beam to fail. You better hope your insurance carrier doesn't see this because you are going to either get a stupidity increase or canceled. If you worked for me you'd all be unemployed.
They are best for throwing as far away as possible. Or telling time with its shadow.
Nunca entenderé está boberias
Awesome amigo 👌
Super professional amigo !!!!👏
I absolutely can't stand the soffit wood on the overhang the waybthe venting is cut. Its weak and the attick will be filled with bugs.
Great job but 2 men plus 1 lvl plus plank, all at one side resting on one 6 foot ladder step rated at 250 lbs. Ur lucky there was no accident, yikes!!DONT do that!
Don't yell at me. 😂
The Swanson speed square is literally a Pandora’s box of building knowledge and instruction… 🙏🙏🤲🤲🧘♂️🧘♂️
Did not know this
I cant believe I always bent over to move or grab the beating block ....
I recently moved from the Midwest. Ive worked on the west coast several time. Midwest treated lumber is very very different and way better.
i never will trust osb i joist as a roof in my home😭
This is pure sorcery…🪄🧙♂️
Got any hoodies like that shirt? Checked out your apparel page didn't see it.
Where’s the glue?!
Seems like steel would have been a simpler, quicker solution. I just have a gut feeling that the pre bent LVLs and existing load will bring the new one into the same resting position the other ones found.
That span is juicy.
This line and this line. What line are those ?
How are they cost wise to steel? I always think that the glue won't last hundreds of years. What do I know though. I think it would be cool to put some steel in between layers of wood..
Glulams have such a lovely look when showcased in a building.
As a finish carpenter I'd say that's definitely a beautiful gang cut.
What are you using for your ridged rim to match your r-70 depth? Are they 16” joists?
Rosboro is very good at providing documentation for sizing beams and columns.
Great video, more mistakes please !
That is some crazy voodoo magic on that speed square. What square is that? The inexpensive Johnson Level and Tool square I have has a similar line but it runs from the 75 degree mark to 4.25" on the ruler. So I would have to use a different degree mark to get the net 3.5" measurement.
Really cool to know. Just bought this exact square a few months ago, I definitely prefer it over the normal Swanson.
It's nice to see someone else use that feature on a speed square. It seems to be invisible for a lot of people.
Not seeing a lot of talk about how lumber orders have a percentage of bad boards that need to be culled, whereas an LVL order does not. The price of lumber is higher than it looks. Maybe not enough to make up for fancy LVL lol, but still.
A great vid. thanks for sharing.
My plan is to use glulams as the rafters in my great room with t&g pine on top
fred flintstones spanner🎉
About the only time we end up using Glulams around here-southwest VA-is in treated form for deck beams. Not sure why, because there’s been many a time I’ve been assembling a 2 or 3 ply LVL beam and wished we could have gotten the thing in one piece,” but you work with what they send you, right?
so like 30 nails to the ridge beam? between the extra hardware/nails/stiffeners and the labor, what is the point of not just using solid lumber? all the cost savings of I-beams are gone
I like how your soffit and sub fascia is on before the roof. Nice work
Thank you, this was great information!!!
Your RUclips channel is appropriately named, you are an awesome framer and a "smart" framer too. Your videos show how to correctly frame so hopefully some of these diy will learn good tips in the process.
Yeah thats a well built house.👍👍
@12:00 you talk about having the 3rd stud for nailing of the sheathing. Is the 2nd (flat) stud used for structural purposes or just for nailing for the sheathing? Instead of using the 3rd normal facing stud for sheathing, could you slide over the "flat" stud and save yourself a stud piece? Amateur here to learn, thanks
Use screws. Much better grip and you can remove the hanger if you needed to.
Thanks for sharing. I just watched for the comedy. Learning how to install an entry door was a bonus. Great lesson.
These hangers are great if your joists dont very in height.
Very nice detail. Great application for outriggers.
Throwing low. You throw up and past someone so they can catch it on the way up and back down.
Yep, I was taught to have the top of the arc be at eye level.
@@AwesomeFramers I love you guys. I hope to drop in on a site one day. Or just drop you a great video or picture 😉
This guy is the real deal and he’s funny too keep up the good work big doggy 🐩
Why do you need such a structurally strong roof? Is the roof space completely open or something. I don't understand.
SNOW LOAD AND VAULTED CEILING😂
Tree proofing 😂. With the soddy roof work I’ve seen I won’t argue a good roof.
It's called out in the video. It's a 31 foot span with a vaulted ceiling.
I love heights, rigging, and very technical matters… you make me want to be a framer 😂
Nothing like being on top of a 3 foot ladder to nail top plates. Makes me feel alive haha. You can have the heights and working off ladders all day. That's a young man's job. I'll be the ground man. But yeah give it a go. We need more young men in the trades. Sure it's hard work but You can make a pile of money without a day of school. It's all OJT.
I noticed that you are installing the SDWC Truss screws from the top. I like that idea since you have easy access with the walking plank. But I know some inspectors want to see the orange heads as they walk through. Just curious if your inspector had any issues with this install detail? Anything you did to handle this concern like show the inspector photos or video of the install?
Haven't had an issue yet. I document it though as we go
Nice
